Dirk Bahmann is an architect and artist, who was born and lives in Johannesburg, South Africa.  He studied Architecture at the University of the Witwatersrand and obtained his qualifications, a BAS in 1997 and B.Arch. in 2000. He currently lectures in the school of Architecture and Planning at Wits University and manages the s’Fanakalo maker-space.

 

His work spans and combines several diverse disciplines ranging from photography, physical computing, sculpture, and new media.

Deeply influenced by the writings of M. Eliade and N. Schultz his art praxis centres on the investigation of “dwelling” Which explores the psycho – spatial aspects of the notion of place as an expression of a psychological “centre”.
